Not sure where to post this.

I'm trying to write my dissertation, and both the examiners and I would prefer it if I used latex for the required notation. The frustrating thing is that even though I do know how to produce latex code, I don't know how to save it into a format that the computer will understand and print. I'm using the university computers so there should be a program which does this. I've found one called wintex (no not the doom level editor.. *ahem*) but it doesn't seem very friendly?

Can anyone help?

miktek is the back-end people generally use, then you have to choose a front-end. Lyx is the most user-friendly and free front-end, but can have terrible errors that you can't find sometimes and you don't have a lot of control over the formatting code-wise (it's more like word). PCLatex is one that you write the code for, but it gives you instant gratification in pdf format so you can see how you're doing. It may also have a debugger if I remember correctly.
