I'm having trouble drawing the diagrams:
ex. dinitrogren pentaoxide
is it right?
Let's start at the beginning. What is the chemical formula for dinitrogen pentoxide?
Where did you get P from? Oxide implys that the compound contains oxygen. Want to try again?
Hint: you turned the "di" into "2"
What does the prefix "penta" mean (it's a number)
Sorry, I was in a real rush yesterday.
I just don't know how to do the double and triple bonds.
Try drawing it again with oxygen, by the way penta is 5.
This is mostly trial and error with molecules this big. You'll get an intuition for what makes the right structure as you spend more time with more molecules, drawing their structures.
For now, since there's an odd number of O-atoms, you might guess that there's 1 or 3 O-atoms between the 2 N-atoms, and the rest on the sides. Try the first option and show us what you come up with...
how would i connect them ?
That's a good attempt, but you missed one electron on the third O-atom! Also, you've put 2 O-atoms between the N-atoms. Try again with only 1 O-atom between the pair of N atoms: (O2) N O N (O2).
Separate names with a comma.
