A steel balk has a length of 50.485 m at the temperature of 5.0 oC.


Homework Equations



What would be the length of the balk at the temperature of -22 oC, when the coefficient of linear expansion (α ) is 0.000012 / oC?

let L1 = initial length, and L2 = final length.

then use L2 = L1*(1 + a*T), T = T2 - T1 = - 27 C
