Mach value64

  1. Jan 21, 2007 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    If the temperature is 12 degrees and a jet accelerates at rest at 12ms2 for 41s, then what is the Mach value for the jet at the end of 41 seconds

    2. Relevant equations
    mach#=vovs
    speed of sound equation

    3. The attempt at a solution

    v=12degrees
    a=12ms2
    v=339,08ms
    m#=vo/vs

    Your statement of the problem has numerous flaws. I assume the jet accelerates from rest, and that you meant "t=12degrees" above. Careful also to use acceleration units of meters per second^2, not m-s^2. Finally your value for v is incorrect.

    What is the equation giving velocity in terms of acceleration and time? Once you have that you'll need the speed of sound at 12 degrees to finish the problem...
