Homework Help: Make x the subject

  1. Dec 13, 2009 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

    I made x the subject and i want to make sure i did it correctly

    x-b(x2-1)b/2 = a

    2. Relevant equations

    3. The attempt at a solution

    power both sides by -1/b

    x(x2-1)-1/2 = (a)-1/b

    (1-x-2)-1/2 = a-1/b

    x-2 = 1-a2/b

    x = [1-a2/b]-1/2

    thank you

    You should have x = +/-[1-a2/b]-1/2
    Other than that, it looks fine.
