In summary, Martinus Veltman was a Dutch physicist and Nobel laureate known for his contributions to the field of particle physics. His autobiography, "Facts and Mysteries in Elementary Particle Physics", was published in 2003 and covers his life and career, his work in quantum electrodynamics, and his thoughts on the future of modern physics. While primarily aimed at scientists, it can also be enjoyed by non-scientists interested in learning about a Nobel laureate and the world of particle physics.

This short autobiography of physicist Martinus Veltman is interesting. https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/laureates/1999/veltman-bio.html

He overcame many of the concerns that posters in this section of the forum express - uninspiring teachers, subject matter they don't like, starting at late age etc. (However, it might be unreasonable to advise the average person to duplicate that feat.)
