- Looking for insight on meshless FEA
Anybody have experience with it? Is it really meshless or just hiding a mesh generation?
Meshless modeling techniques are numerical methods used to simulate physical phenomena without requiring a predefined mesh. Unlike traditional mesh-based methods, meshless techniques use a set of scattered points to represent the geometry and solve the governing equations.
One major advantage of using meshless techniques is their ability to handle complex geometries and deformations without the need for mesh generation. This simplifies the modeling process and reduces computational costs. Additionally, meshless methods are more accurate than traditional methods in certain scenarios, such as problems with large deformations or cracks.
Meshless modeling techniques have been applied to a wide range of problems, including fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, heat transfer, and electromagnetics. They are particularly useful in problems involving complex geometries, moving boundaries, and large deformations.
One limitation of meshless techniques is their sensitivity to the distribution of scattered points. Poor point distribution can result in inaccurate solutions or even convergence issues. Additionally, some problems may require a large number of points, which can lead to longer computational times.
Meshless modeling techniques have several advantages over traditional mesh-based methods, such as the ability to handle complex geometries and deformations, higher accuracy in certain scenarios, and reduced computational costs. However, meshless methods may also have limitations, such as sensitivity to point distribution and longer computational times in some cases. The choice between the two methods depends on the specific problem at hand and the desired level of accuracy and efficiency.
