In summary, the conversation discusses the topic of specializing in Nanotechnology and the search for good institutes in India and the US. The speaker mentions having a friend who is doing a PhD on MOSFET device structures and suggests checking out potential PhD topics at IMEC. They also mention that there may not be many institutes in India offering an MSc in Nanotechnology, but there are some offering a PhD. The conversation ends with a link to IIT-Guwahati's PhD program.

I have a good frien from INDIA (electrical engineer) who is doing his phd on MOSFET device structures (MugFet's) here at IMEC [1]. It really depends on what exactly you want to do. I suggest you check out the possible phd topics here at IMEC. For example are you into metal gate high k-stuff, carbon nanotubes and CNT-transistors, reliability, ?

Feel free to PM-me if you want to know more.

marlon

I don't think there is any institute in India offering a degree(MSc-level) in nanotech but there are few offering a PhD programme in nanotechnology(again depends on your area of interest because Nanotechnology is a very vast field  ).
IIT-Guwahati has a PhD programme I believe. Check out this link.

1. What is nanotechnology and why is it important?

Nanotechnology is the study and manipulation of matter at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers in size. It has the potential to revolutionize various industries and technologies, such as medicine, energy, and electronics, by providing new ways to create and control materials at the atomic level. Its importance lies in its ability to improve existing products and processes, as well as develop new ones, leading to advancements in various fields and improving our quality of life.

2. How many nanotech institutes are there in India and the US?

As of 2021, there are approximately 45 nanotechnology institutes in India and over 60 in the US. These numbers are constantly changing as new institutes are established and existing ones evolve.

3. What are the top nanotech institutes in India and the US?

In India, some of the top nanotech institutes include the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. In the US, some of the top nanotech institutes include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and the University of California, Berkeley.

4. What kind of research is being conducted in nanotech institutes in India and the US?

Nanotech institutes in both India and the US are conducting research in a wide range of areas, including nanomedicine, nanoelectronics, nanomaterials, and nanomanufacturing. Some specific research topics include developing targeted drug delivery systems, creating more efficient solar cells, and designing stronger and lighter materials for aerospace applications.

5. How can I apply to a nanotech institute in India or the US?

Each nanotech institute has its own admission process, so it is best to visit their individual websites for specific application requirements. Generally, applicants are required to have a strong background in science and engineering, and may need to submit standardized test scores and letters of recommendation. International students may also need to meet additional requirements, such as English proficiency exams.
