MSc in Physics after B.Tech in India?

In summary, it is possible to pursue an MSc in Physics from IITs or other institutes after completing a B.Tech degree. Some IITs also offer specialized programs in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Additionally, the 5 year integrated MSc programs from NIT Rourkela and BIT Mesra are viable options for those interested in these fields. It is recommended to research the admission requirements and deadlines for these programs and reach out to faculty members for more information and potential research opportunities.

Hi there,

I am a HS passout in India and gave various engineering entrance examinations((IIT JEE, AIEEE, etc.)) this year. I want to know if it is possible to do MSc in Physics from IITs or some institute after doing B. Tech? I want to have a career in Astronomy and Astrophysics but there are no related courses available at undergrad level in India and I will have to get a BSc/MSc first.

I also have the option of 5 year integrated MSc fron NIT Rourkela and 5 year integrated MSc from BIT Mesra((the latter has an exit option after three years where you passout with a BSc degree, if I have to take up this course I will take this option and then try to get in an IIT for MSc))

All advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to do an MSc in Physics from IITs after completing a B.Tech degree. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) offer graduate programs in Physics for both Masters and Doctoral studies. Depending on your background, you may be interested in the MSc or PhD programs in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by some IITs. The 5 year integrated MSc programs from NIT Rourkela and BIT Mesra are also great options, as they will give you a BSc degree after three years if you choose the exit option. After that, you can apply for an MSc program at an IIT.We recommend that you browse through the websites of the IITs and contact the Admissions Office of the respective IITs for more information regarding admission requirements and deadlines. You can also get in touch with faculty members in the Physics/Astronomy/Astrophysics departments to enquire about research opportunities and grants. Good luck!
