Need help on organic synthesis

  1. Nov 14, 2006 #1
Hey, I'm trying to figure out how to convert 4-methylpentanoic acid into 4-methyl-2-bromopentanoic acid and I'm stuck. It's second semester O-chem for reference. Any ideas? Thanks.

this is probably wrong but simply treat with bromine and UV light? its the carbon with the least number of H on it so itll lose it more easily than the others.
