Homework Help: Need help on this problem. Kinematics

  1. Feb 16, 2010 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

    Two motorboats on opposite shores of a river start moving toward each other, but at different speeds. (Neglect all other factors, like acceleration, turn around one, and current.) When they pass each other the first time they are 700 metres from one shoreline. They continue to the opposite shore and start moving toward each other again. When they pass the second time, they are 300 metres from the other shoreline. How wide is the river?

    2. Relevant equations

    V = d/t
    T = d/v
    D = v*t

    I need to know how to do it step by step, and the solution

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks,
