How Can Punctuation Change the Tone of Online Communication?

In summary, people on PF sometimes use aggressive language without smiley faces or other cues to soften their words. However, it has been suggested that using different punctuation can convey aggressiveness without being obvious and causing upset. Some examples include using multiple exclamation points or question marks, using emojis such as :grumpy: or :tongue2:, or using Leet speak. It has also been proposed to use a delimiter to indicate the use of aggressive punctuation, such as :), and to use it around entire messages or just specific sentences. Ultimately, the importance of tone and intention should be considered when using language, and it is possible to convey aggressiveness without causing harm.

Sometimes on PF people use words and phrases that CAN seem aggresive without smiley faces or similar to 'disarm' them.

However, as an alternative, we could use 'different' punctuation' to really be aggresive, without anyone knowing actually knowing, so also avoiding upset!

Here, take a look. - ?

[ze]

Of course, it should be acceptable to use the ze delimiter around words as well - ?
