Newton's law

  1. Jul 26, 2007 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    There are streets in san francisco that make an angle of 17.5 degrees with the horizontal.What force parallell to the street surface is required to keep a loaded dodge caravan of mass 2200kg from rolling down such a street?

    2. Relevant equations
    wsin(theta) = horizontal component
    F = force required to keep a caravan from rolling down the street

    3. The attempt at a solution
    summation of Fx = wsin(theta) - F = 0 = ma
    wsin(theta) = F
    (2200kg)(9.8m/s^2) sin(17.6) = F
    F = 6519 N
