Non-homework question about virology

  1. Oct 4, 2011 #1
I'm reading these two papers out of my own intrest:

    http://jbx.sagepub.com/content/11/1/65.full.pdf+html

    http://molpharm.aspetjournals.org/content/73/3/789.full.pdf+html

In the antiviral assay they mention a pseudotyped HIV virus is used to infect LTR luciferase containing indicator cells. What exactly is a pseudotyped virus, is it just an HIV viral envelope with expressed gp 120/160 on the surface and non-virulent character. And does this infection induce the expression of Luciferase in the indicator cell, and if so, how?

It wont let me copy and paste from the article sorry.
