In summary, NR3 is a weak base with a pKa of 9.79 and is commonly known as trimethylamine. It is a colorless, flammable gas with a strong fishy odor and is soluble in water. NR3 has various uses in scientific research, such as a reagent in organic synthesis and a precursor for chemical compounds. It also reacts with acids to form salts and can be harmful in large amounts, but is naturally produced in the human body in small amounts.

Edited the thread title.

1. Is NR3 an acid or a base?

NR3 is a base. It is also known as trimethylamine, and is a weak base with a pKa of 9.79.

2. What are the properties of NR3?

NR3 is a colorless, flammable gas with a strong fishy odor. It is soluble in water and can form salts with acids. It is also a common byproduct of decaying organic matter.

3. How is NR3 used in scientific research?

NR3 is commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as well as a precursor for various chemical compounds. It is also used in the production of some drugs and pesticides.

4. How does NR3 react with acids?

NR3 acts as a base and neutralizes acids, forming salts. This is due to its ability to accept a proton from the acid, resulting in the formation of a conjugate acid.

5. Is NR3 harmful to humans?

In its pure form, NR3 can be harmful if inhaled or ingested. It can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. However, in small amounts, NR3 is naturally produced in the human body and is considered safe.
