Nucleus Splits Kinetic Energy?

In summary: N = 222uK = (222/2)(1.67x10^(-27))(3x10^8)^2 = 3.978x10^-10 JoulesIn summary, when a nucleus of mass 222.0 u at rest splits into two equal fragments of mass 110 u, the total kinetic energy of the fragments is 3.978x10^-10 Joules.

Homework Statement

6. A nucleus of mass Mo=222.0 u at rest spontaneously splits into two equal fragments,
each of mass M=110 u. When these two fragments are far apart, how much total kinetic
energy do they have? That is, what is the sum of their individual kinetic energies? (Note
that 1 u= 1.7 x 10^-27 kg, and 1 uc2 = 15.3 x 10^-11 J.)

1. 3.060 x 10-10 J
2. 3.366 x 10-10 J
3. 3.672 x 10-10 J
4. 3.978 x 10-10 J
5. 4.284 x 10-10 J
6. 4.569 x 10-10 J

No surroundings so...

Ef = Ei

would the equation be...

KE(of both) + Mc^2 + Mc^2 = Moc^2

is this set up right? thanks!

Judging by the available answers, I think you have to specify u to more significant figures. u = 1.67x10^-27 kg. (mass of proton), 1 uc2 = 15.03 x 10^-11 J.

What is kinetic energy?

Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. It is a form of energy that can be transferred or transformed into other forms.

What is nucleus splits kinetic energy?

Nucleus splits kinetic energy, also known as nuclear fission, is the process by which the nucleus of an atom splits into two or more smaller nuclei, releasing a large amount of energy in the form of heat and radiation.

How is nucleus splits kinetic energy used?

Nucleus splits kinetic energy is used in nuclear power plants to generate electricity. It is also used in nuclear weapons to create a powerful explosion.

What is the difference between nuclear fission and nuclear fusion?

Nuclear fission is the splitting of a nucleus into smaller nuclei, while nuclear fusion is the combining of two or more nuclei to form a larger nucleus. Both processes release large amounts of energy, but they are different in terms of the reactions involved and the amount of energy released.

What are the potential dangers of nucleus splits kinetic energy?

The main danger of nucleus splits kinetic energy is the potential for nuclear accidents, which can release harmful radiation into the environment. It also produces radioactive waste that must be carefully managed to prevent harm to living organisms.
