Offer from Hull to do Phyics

  1. Jan 26, 2009 #1
I got an offer to do Physics and nanotechnology from Hull (one of the only 4 places that do the course i want to do) and i wanted to know what people think of the physics department there. i'm not going to get three A's and get into birmingham currently the grades i'm aiming for are BCC in IT, maths and physics

There's got to be more than 4 physics departments in the UK that offer degrees in physics and nano! As for Hull, I've no experience with the department, so can't really offer any input. Someone else surely will, though.

I don't know about Hull university or the Physics dept (as for the city - well let's just say, people from Hull go to Gaza on holiday for a break)
I would be careful of courses advertised as Physics + <latest buzzword>, often the <latest buzzword> component consists of a single final year optional course and it often means a dept that is a bit desperate for students and is looking for a way to boost applications.

    Especialy careful if :
this is a topic where you aren't going to be able to do more than a 'for dummies' introduction without a couple of extra degrees
where the <latest buzzword> is so vague it could mean anything
where the dept doesn't have a research reputation in <latest buzzword>

    - of ocurse this could just be me being overly cynical ;-)

I'd advise you go to a University forum. I can pm you the URL, I believe they have specialist forums for all of the major universities, and you can get a general idea from students attending there, and those attending other universities about how well it is placed in physics. Pm me if you want the address.

Hull is a fine town. I know a few people who went to Hull uni and they had a good time. It's quite a nice campus really. It's never dull at Hull!

People are cruel about the town because it's northern and inconsequential. I view neither as bad things.
