Can Mature Students Succeed in Distance Learning for Electrical Engineering?

Hi everyone, I'm a mature (55 year old) distance learner student trying to catch up with my misspent younger days. I failed my TEC 5 Electronics by one subject in the 80s and never bothered to try again. Now I'm trying to get my HNC in Electrical engineering as a distance learner. The lack of an HNC has plagued me for 30 years and it's taken me this long to pluck up the courage (and money) to try again. So much has changed in those years and this looks like a great tool for someone like me who can't just ask a tutor when faced with a problem. I'm trying to re-teach myself maths at the same time so it's a bit of a workload.
