Homework Help: Organic chem, resonance structure

  1. Jan 23, 2008 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    Are these two structures resonance?

    if not why not?

    2. Relevant equations

    3. The attempt at a solution

I drew these resonance forms myself, but the answer book didnt' have this resonance structure in its answer and i wanted to know if this indeed is a resonance form.

I ask because one has total charge of -2 and other one is neutral

No, they aren't resonance structures. The reason is:
Resonance forms don't result in a net change of charge. That's a redox effect...
