Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent Explained

In summary, the discussion was about which reagent would be the best to develop Mn+2. The options included OH-, C2O4^-2, [Fe(CN)6]^-4, and BiO3^-1. After considering the equations and products, it was determined that the best choice would be BiO3^-1 as it creates a deep purple aqueous product, making the spot easier to see.

Homework Statement

Which reagent is the best to develop Mn+2? Briefly explain.

Homework Equations

Mn^+2 + 2OH- -> Mn(OH)_2 (s)(pale pink)

Mn^+2 + C_2O_4^-2 -> MnC2O4 (s)(pale pink)

2Mn^+2 + [Fe(CN)_6]^-4 -> Mn_2Fe(CN)_6 (s pale green)

2Mn^+2 + 5(BiO_3)^-1 + 14H+ -> 2(MnO_4)^-1 (aq deep purple) + 5Bi^+3 +7H_2O

The Attempt at a Solution

( _ represents subscripts H_2O represents water. )

At first I thought the second choice would be correct because it uses ions that are not found in the experiment at all, however now I am starting to think it is the last choice because it's product is an aqueous and not a solid, I would appreciate some feedback, the thing stopping me from thinking the last choice is correct is that it creates 2 other products.

A dark color makes the spot easier to see. Which one will give the darkest color?
Hint: in this example the word 'pale' can be replaced with 'barely visible'.

ah ok so then BiO_3 ^-1 would be the best reagent choice :)

1. What is "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent"?

"Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" is a chemical solution commonly used in laboratory experiments to develop images on photographic film or paper. It is a mixture of manganese ions (Mn+2) and other compounds that work together to produce a visible image on a film or paper surface.

2. How does "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" work?

When exposed to light, photographic film or paper contains light-sensitive silver halide crystals that are reduced to metallic silver by the manganese ions in the reagent. This results in a visible image on the surface of the film or paper.

3. What makes "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" the best choice for developing images?

"Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" is highly effective in producing high-quality, well-defined images on photographic film or paper. It is also relatively stable and has a long shelf life, making it a reliable choice for laboratory experiments.

4. Are there any safety concerns when using "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent"?

While "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" is generally considered safe, it is important to handle it with care and follow proper safety protocols. Avoid direct contact with the skin or eyes, and dispose of any unused reagent properly according to your institution's guidelines.

5. Can "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" be used for all types of film or paper?

It is recommended to use "Optimized Developing Mn+2 - Best Reagent" with black and white film or paper. It may also be effective for developing color film, but results may vary. It is not suitable for use with instant film or color reversal film.
