    Stormy Weather
Here is a very broad easily interpreted topic.
    Contest Rules:

    1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

    2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. You are also allowed to adjust the brightness and contrast of your picture but these should not dramatically alter the look of the picture. But other than those, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

    3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack or photobucket. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

    4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

    5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

    6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

    7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

    8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

    9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

I can't find the un-resized originals of these. But the snowflakes at night turned out very strange on a digital camera. The distant light is the neighbour's porch light across the street.

Wow, G, that's an amazing photo! It looks like something from a sci fi outerspace scene!

  5. Pretty odd, huh? I had more shots from that snow storm that evening that weren't previously cropped, but I recently got a new computer and now I can't find stuff from my back-up transfer. I wish I had a better one to share.

  6. Georgina:

That's so cool! I first thought, "That's no storm... that's a clear night tough some darn good telescope..." (but of course then there was that surreal little square.... very Twilight-Zone).

That's an awesome picture Georgina! I never would have guessed what that was. Sometimes the pictures that we aren't trying for turn out to be the most interesting

  10. Thank you. I'm not good at all with photography, and that was entirely luck.

Winter storm in the desert with fog shrouding the mountains. All of our summer monsoon storms have come at night so far.

  17. I took pictures of lightning last night from my apartment staircase and then saw this topic today. Wonderful timing!

Not my favorite but everyone else seems to like this one the most out of the set I took.

Lucky man... I am waiting for a good storm that will occur at the correct time of the day and will be well visible from my windows several years now. There were plenty of those BEFORE I bought good digital camera. This summer we have storms almost every day, but they are either in the middle of the day or too far :(

  19. The only thing that allowed that shot to be taken is that I can have long shutters on my point and shoot. If I had a DSLR it would have been so much easier and would have turned out better. Then I could use a smaller aperture and use bulb to hold the shutter open until lightning struck.

Monsoon season in Tucson is always amazing.

Stitched panorama of a brewing storm at Zion National Park during sunset. Original panorama is 15489x8456. :)

Sorry for the big ugly watermark. I don't trust the internet with my photos.
