Hi,

I graduate university this summer with a physics degree, (4 year masters, specialising in astrophysics and particle physics), and I'm very keen to do a PhD in cosmology. Does anyone know which departments are the best to work in, for this field? I'd love a project on QSOs as a probe of cosmological models, but I'm keen on other things too. I'm at Oxford currently, and will probably apply here and Cambridge, I also think Sussex has some really good opportunities, but I'm struggling to find much information on alot of the other university's websites.

My preference is a medium or large institution in the southern half of England, but if other universities have great opportunities I'd be keen on them too.

If anyone knows anything about the other departments that would be really helpful,
Thanks.

I don't have comprehensive knowledge about all the universities, but do check out Durham. Its Institute of Computational Cosmology ranks top 5 in the world in computational cosmology (mainly simulation of galaxy formation). Also, when you apply to Cambridge, check out both the Institute of Astronomy and DAMTP.
