Homework Help: Physic question on kinematics

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    A rock is tossed straight up with a velocity of When it returns, it falls into a hole deep.
    What is the rock's velocity as it hits the bottom of the hole?

    What have you tried?
    When the ball returns to it's original launch height it's velocity will be that with which it was launched with but in the opposite direction.
    If you know the depth of the hole, you should then be able to compute the ball's final velocity using a kinematic relation.
