Physics Terms in Chinese

  1. Feb 28, 2008 #1
I'm not sure where to ask this question, apologies if this is the wrong place.

A friend of mine (native Chinese speaker, from Taipei), is helping with a project to translate some physics texts to Chinese for economically disadvantaged children. It seems that Taiwan Chinese and China's Chinese have many different terms for some basic terms such as:

    scalar
    vector
    dot product
    cross product
    normal

These are the current 'problem' terms. If someone could post the generally accepted translation in either or both of these dialects, or direct me to an online resource, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Shelly

    scalar 数量
vector (the kind that carry indices) 向量
vector (the kind that carry in disease) 带菌者
    dot product 点乘
    cross product 叉乘
    normal 直角

These are simplified characters. Your friend should have no trouble translating to traditional characters. In fact, I think in this case they are all the same.

Do you need the pinyin for that?
