I have to estimate the probability that a gas molecule has an energy between E+dE. I know that the number of microstates in the interval is

g(E)*\Delta E = d\Gamma(E)/dE*\Delta E

where d\Gamma(E) = V/h^3 *(2*m*E)^{3/2}. So my suggested solution is that finding the number of microstates by differentiating \Gamma

d\Gamma(E)/dE = 3*m*V/h^3 * (2*m*E)^{1/2}

and multiple this with \Delta E - my problem is to the total number of states?

Any help or advice appreciated
