Quadratic surface

    Z=y^2-x^2
    Is it always best to substitute k for each and plug in 0, +-1, +-2 to graph each trace.

    For each what? Why "k" in particular?

    To do what? To sketch the "equipotential curves"? Yes, setting Z to different values will give different heights.
