In summary, the value of x - y is the difference between the values of x and y. It can also be thought of as the amount that must be subtracted from x to result in y. This concept is commonly used in algebraic equations and can be calculated by finding the numerical difference between the two values or by using the algebraic expression x - y. Understanding the value of x - y is crucial in solving equations and in everyday mathematical applications.

[SOLVED] Question 2

- Let x be the smallest integer greater than 2000 that is the product of seven primes.
- Let y be the largest integer smaller than 2000 that is the product of seven primes.

Here's a try.

Not sure if this is correct but here goes:

x = 3^7 = 2,187.

y = 2^6 * 31 = 1,984.

2,187 - 1,984 = 203.

Correct.

1. What is the value of x-y if x = 10 and y = 5?

The value of x-y would be 5, since 10-5 = 5.

2. Can x-y have a negative value?

Yes, x-y can have a negative value if x is less than y. For example, if x = 5 and y = 10, then x-y would be -5.

3. How do you solve for x-y if the values are given in fractions?

To solve for x-y with fractions, first find a common denominator for both fractions. Then, subtract the numerators and keep the common denominator. For example, if x = 1/3 and y = 1/6, the common denominator would be 6. So, x-y would be (1/3)-(1/6) = (2/6)-(1/6) = 1/6.

4. Can x and y be variables instead of numbers?

Yes, x and y can be variables instead of numbers. In this case, the value of x-y would also be a variable, unless specific values are assigned to x and y.

5. How does the order of x and y affect the value of x-y?

The order of x and y in x-y does not affect the value. For example, if x = 10 and y = 5, then x-y = 10-5 = 5. If x = 5 and y = 10, then x-y = 5-10 = -5. The difference between the values would still be the same, regardless of the order.
