Question: What Makes Light Move & Why Does It Travel at 299792458 mps?

In summary, the speed of light is a fundamental aspect of nature that has no underlying explanation. It is simply the way it works. Similar to how the stone creates waves when thrown into water, the light switch creates light by producing electromagnetic waves. The number 299792458 mps is a natural constant that results from the units of meter and seconds that we have chosen.

What makes the waves if you throw a stone into the water? The stone. So the light switch makes the light move. Light is an electromagnetic wave that has to be "created" somewhere. E.g. by an electric current that brings the electrons of the atoms in a light bulb to a higher level and when they fall back, which they will do the same way as a pencil falls down if placed on its peak, they emit light.

The number is simply a natural constant and the digits are because we've chosen meter and seconds in a way that results in this number.

1. What is light?

Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye. It is a type of energy that travels in waves.

2. How does light move?

Light moves in a straight line, also known as a ray. This is because it has no mass and is not affected by gravity. It can also be described as moving in a wave-like pattern.

3. What makes light move?

Light is made up of particles called photons. These photons have energy and momentum, which allows them to move through space at a constant speed.

4. Why does light travel at 299792458 meters per second (mps)?

This speed, also known as the speed of light, is a fundamental constant in the universe. It is determined by the properties of the medium it is traveling through and the properties of space and time.

5. How is the speed of light measured?

The speed of light is measured using various methods, including using lasers and mirrors to time how long it takes for light to travel a known distance. It can also be derived from other fundamental constants in physics, such as the permittivity and permeability of free space.
