Quick: b4 my exam How does n (Enery State) relate to s and L

  1. Nov 12, 2004 #1
    Hi ppl...

I have read my text book and it simply doesn't explane this.. so here goes.. NOTE: soz if this is in the wrong forum...

Im studying Year 13 Physis (7th form, or university entrence) and within Atomic Physics there is this energy state thing..

If you take the general forumla of Balmer's equation, you have the S and L values I know what the S (series value is) and i also sort of know what the L value is. However what does the L value represent in the atom? Also how does n relate to S and L???

Thanks heaps, sorry if the question doesn't make to much scence im not to sure myself what i am treying to ask :uhh:
