Radio Telescopes

  1. Jul 6, 2006 #1
I'm just wondering, why radio telescopes are arranged "Y" shaped, not any other shape? for example the VLA telescopes, and AM also inquisitve to know whethere there is any connection between them,, i mean,
does each telecops in the VLA contribute separately to the information gathering of this array or are they interrelated and they give finally one complete set of data! Also, does the telescope in the center of the VLA have a specific role (like commanding the others for example....) or is it similar to the other telescopes?

    Thanx in advance everyone.
