How can you tell the difference between a raw and boiled egg?

In summary, the conversation discusses a video that shows how to differentiate between a raw and boiled egg using physics. The method involves spinning the egg and briefly halting its motion. A raw egg will resume spinning while a boiled egg will not. However, there was a warning about a link that may crash computers.

Speed and duration of spin? That looks pretty unreliable.. a better way is to spin the egg then briefly halt it's motion. The raw egg will resume its spin, because the fluid inside has not stopped.

Actually I knew about this, raw eggs are MUCH harder to keep spinning at a high rate.

Warning, clicking the link crashed my computer just now. Wonder what would motivate someone to join a forum just to make one post, about a link that crashes people's computers...

What is the nutritional difference between raw and boiled eggs?

Raw eggs and boiled eggs have similar nutritional profiles but the main difference is in the digestibility. Raw eggs contain avidin, which binds to biotin and makes it less available for absorption. Boiling eggs denatures avidin, making biotin more easily absorbed. Additionally, boiled eggs have a slightly higher protein content due to the denaturation process.

Is it safe to eat raw eggs?

Eating raw eggs may put you at risk for foodborne illness such as salmonella. The risk is low but still present, especially for individuals with weakened immune systems. It is recommended to cook eggs thoroughly to reduce the risk of illness.

Which is better for weight loss, raw or boiled eggs?

Neither raw nor boiled eggs have a significant advantage over the other for weight loss. Both are a good source of protein and can help keep you feeling full, but the key to weight loss is overall calorie intake and a balanced diet.

Do raw eggs have more nutrients than boiled eggs?

Raw eggs may have a slightly higher nutrient content due to the fact that cooking can decrease the levels of certain vitamins and minerals. However, as mentioned before, the digestibility of boiled eggs is higher, allowing for better absorption of nutrients.

Can you get salmonella from boiled eggs?

If eggs are properly boiled, the risk of salmonella contamination is extremely low. The high heat used in boiling eggs kills most bacteria, including salmonella. It is important to handle and cook eggs properly to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
