Recommend something for me to learn

  1. Aug 4, 2011 #1
I have a 3 week break before the fall semester. I'm taking Physics I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, and Organic Chemistry in the fall. I have just about finished teaching myself Calculus II, and I will be starting familiarization with Linear algebra, but I would like something else that would be useful to study. I am already very familiar with the topics of Physics I.

I was thinking about familiarizing myself with some form of programming, mathematica, latex, or something, but I am not quite sure where to begin. What language should I pick up, what projects can I work on?

If it makes any difference, so far I plan to study optics and photonics.
    Thanks.
