Riemann-Hilbert problem

  1. Oct 8, 2009 #1
what potential applications has the Riemann-Hilbert problem?

is there more than one Riemann-Hilbert problem ? for example in Zeidler ' Quantum Field Theory' he defines the R-H problem as the solution of

    [tex] F(x+iy)-F(x-iy)=g(x) [/tex]

for a given g(x) and unknown F(z) HOlomorphic function

however Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riemann–Hilbert_problem defines it into a different way, in some pages i heard it had to deal with renormalization in physics or something similar.
