Homework Help: Rocket Problem Redux

  1. Oct 21, 2006 #1
    Hello everyone (again)

This rocket problem is making me feel very stupid. For those of you who haven't read my problem. I am trying to:

Make a rocket simulator that has an animation of it obtaining an orbit around the earth. This is proving extrodinarily difficult, despite my advisor keep telling me it is not.

I have run into two principle problems:

    1) Finding phi as a function of time. I *think* I solved this
    2) Taking into account how the changing orientation of the rocket effects its velocity in the x and y-hat direction

Right now I am using an iterative process. I guess I am not that good at vector analysis as I thought. I made a PDF showing the math I am using:

    Any insight would be helpful!

    Thanks,
    Matt
