Roller coaster for a golf ball

In summary, the conversation is about building a roller coaster for a golf ball using only recycled materials and no prefabricated materials. The requirements include 2 loops, 2 hills with 20 cm height change, and no tools except for chicken wire and cardboard. The use of any non-commercial materials is allowed but not wood for support. The person is having difficulty finding sturdy support and is considering using cardboard, newspaper, and water.

I have to make a roller coaster for a golf ball. It has to be made out of recycled materials. This also means no materials for construction (but chicken wire is allowed) and no prefabricated materials (Legos, Kenex, etc)
2 loops, 2 hills. Each hill has to be 20 cm height change.
Can anyone give me suggestions on materials and what is the best way to build this type of contraption. I really do not have many tools and am trying to do this mostly with cardboard, but it isn't working out very well.

So, in addition to chicken wire netting you are allowed to use cardboard. What other materials are you allowed to use?

Anything that is not commercial or purchased. We can not use any type of pre-fabricated materials, and we are not allowed to go to home depot to purchase anything. The only wood we can use is on the base, not as support for the contraption.
I am having a hard time finding sturdy enough support to create this coaster.

It seems to me that with cardboard, newspaper, and water (and enough time for things to dry) it should be pretty easy.

1. How is a roller coaster for a golf ball different from a traditional roller coaster?

A roller coaster for a golf ball is specifically designed to be used with a golf ball. This means that the track is much smaller and more precise, and the velocity and forces experienced by the golf ball are significantly different from those experienced by a person on a traditional roller coaster.

2. How does a roller coaster for a golf ball work?

A roller coaster for a golf ball uses the principles of potential and kinetic energy to propel the golf ball along the track. The initial drop provides the ball with potential energy, which is converted to kinetic energy as it moves down the track. The track is also designed with loops, turns, and hills to keep the ball moving and maintain the momentum.

3. What is the purpose of a roller coaster for a golf ball?

The purpose of a roller coaster for a golf ball is to demonstrate the principles of physics in a fun and interactive way. It allows people to see how energy is transferred and how forces act on objects in motion. It also provides a unique way to play mini golf and challenge oneself.

4. Is a roller coaster for a golf ball safe?

Yes, a roller coaster for a golf ball is designed to be safe for both the golf ball and the riders. The track is carefully designed to ensure that the ball stays on the track and does not fly off at high speeds. Additionally, the materials used are specifically chosen to be safe for use with golf balls.

5. How does a roller coaster for a golf ball benefit scientists?

A roller coaster for a golf ball can benefit scientists by providing a real-life, hands-on example of physics principles. It can also be used as a tool for experimentation and data collection, allowing scientists to study the effects of different track designs and ball velocities on the ball's movement and energy transfer.
