    Disappointing pictures, tho

    I thought the rovers had high-quality digital COLOR cameras? Why don't they use them ?

    Because these astronomy photos were not part of the main mission. They're just a quick & fun little side project. They save the big guns for the rocks & landscape. (high-res photos take more time & energy and the rovers are limited in both)
