In summary: The Lone Ranger" plays in the background.)In summary, this song is sad, and the music and tone of the singer's voice make it seem like he's in pain. The A-team song by ed sheeran makes me want to cry.

1. The knowing by the weeknd

2.A-team by ed sheer

The knowing by the weeknd is just an incredibly sad song with the music and the tone of his voice like he is hurting

A-team by ed sheeran just makes me want to cry if possible listen to the song without music or look up the lyrics

"A-Team." I suppose that's not be confused with this:

if you slow down the theme song you can very lightly hear a deep song about life and love

Heard this song thirty years ago and never forgot it. Only last year did I identify the singer. It's about Gallipoli and the aftermath.

Bear in mind, though, that it's a remake. The original was by Eric Bogle, a Scottish-born Aussie, and refers specifically to an Aussie soldier. Joan Baez did a great job, but that wasn't the first release of the song.

Since I'm descended from Robert the Bruce, I have a love of bagpipes that has to be genetic (there can't be any other reason to tolerate the damned things). So as much as I hate religious crap, I have to put "Amazing Grace" in the sad category because I'm a Legionnaire and it has been played at every military, police, or firefighter funeral that I've attended.

Curious, this isn't an endurance test.
I didn't listen to any of your links, because I'm just not in the mood to spend that much time on anyone subject right now. I will say that "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" has something of a sad message, but with the aforementioned aspect of me belonging to the Legion I find it inspirational, along the same line as "In Flanders Fields". "Vincent", likewise, because it is an examination of the beauty that was his madness. (And why doesn't anyone acknowledge that he was murdered? He was shot in the chest, no gun was ever found, and they recorded it as a suicide.)
I've always detested any sappy teen angst songs such as "Tell Laura I Love Her" or "The Last Kiss". There is only one good teen angst song, which I love: "Paradise By the Dashboard Light".

I've most often heard the version by The Pogues (Irish) that jbunniii linked to recently in a thread about better versions of songs.

I love the Nina Simone tunes, micromass. She's amazing.

This old Nirvana tune always makes me sad. Something in the way. Mmmmmm.

Well, I don't know whether or not some might consider this as "sad". To me, it's just reprehensible and makes me furious... when some [STRIKE]cowraper[/STRIKE] cowboy destroys a good rock or pop song by "twangifying" it. If I want to hear some idiot yodeling to his horse, I'll subscribe to CMT. (Which will happen right after I see that red-nosed pig being chased around the sky by a fat guy in a flying sleigh.)

A sad but absolutely wonderful song(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC-jip4cJCs&list=LLrxXYHodDiwp1pLXsBOyHsw.
I generally dislike songs with human voices, to me the voice ruins the song. Just like in Mozart's requiem Lacrimosa (). I'd have loved the song if there were no voices but I feel it's totally ruined and so I don't even like it. :(
Hard to find a song with voice sad, for me.

This song is sadder than you think. Cash is covering it here. I don't recall the name of the group that originally recorded it, maybe Nine Inch Nails, but the lyrics were written by a young girl who was a "cutter" and the poem was autobiographical.

She submitted the poem to a "poetry contest" and never heard back. Then, to her shock, a couple years later she heard them set to music by the original group, playing on the radio.

She got a lawyer. The group that recorded her lyrics said they had bought them fair and square from a poetry stock company, a company that had the rights to all kinds of poems and could sell those rights to anyone.

So, it turns out the "poetry contest" was actually just a scam. The submission small print turns the rights over to the "contest organizers". They keep the best and offer them to sale to anyone looking for a good poem.

I heard this back story to the song many years ago, I think on NPR. At that point, the girl was stuck with no legal recourse, no royalties and never even getting credit for the lyrics.

So I'm guessing that The Nylons are not your favourite group?

Zoob, your example is another that I would put in the "infuriating" category rather than sad. (I'm going by your text; I haven't listened to the song yet.)

This is very sad.

And when I told her
I didn't love her anymore
She cried (she cried)
And when I told her
Her kisses were not like before
She cried (she cried)
I thought that our romance was over and done
But to her it had just begun

And when I told her
Another girl had caught my eye
She cried (she cried)
And when I kissed her
A kiss that only meant goodbye
She cried (she cried)

And when I told her
I didn't love her anymore
She cried (she cried)

I'm crying.

I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night you held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say hello
Oh, you wished me well, you couldn't tell
That I've been crying over you, crying over you
And you said, so long
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying, crying, crying
It's hard to understand but the touch of your hand
Can start me crying

I thought that I was over you
But it's true, so true
I love you even more than I did before
But darling, what can I do
For you don't love me and I'll always be
Crying over you, crying over you

Yes, now you're gone and from this moment on
I'll be crying, crying, crying, crying
Yeah, crying, crying over you

It's over.

Your baby doesn't love you any more

Golden days before they end
Whisper secrets to the wind
Your baby won't be near you any more

Tender nights before they fly
Send falling stars that seem to cry
Your baby doesn't want you any more
It's over

It breaks your heart in two
To know she's been untrue
But, oh, what will you do
When she says to you
There's someone new
We're through, we're through
It's over, it's over, it's over

All the rainbows in the sky
Start to weep, then say goodbye
You won't be seeing rainbows any more

Setting suns before they fall
Echo to you that's all, that's all
But you'll see lonely sunsets after all

It's over, it's over, it's over
It's over

And so it goes

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows.
