Seesaw with spring and plate

In summary, a seesaw with spring and plate works by utilizing the principles of physics, specifically the law of conservation of energy. The spring acts as a mechanical energy storage device, while the plate provides a stable surface for the seesaw to pivot on. Common materials used to make a seesaw with spring and plate include wood, metal, and plastic. When properly designed and installed, it can be safe for children to use with proper supervision and adherence to safety guidelines.

The question ask to find torque about the pivot point S.
I first find the torque due to gravity of the plate and then torque due to spring force.
I understand that the weight of the rod do no torque as it is acting on the pivot S.
Where have I gone wrong?

You used ##m## instead of ##M = 2m## for the mass of the disk.

1. What is a seesaw with spring and plate?

A seesaw with spring and plate is a simple machine that consists of a long plank or board supported on a fulcrum or pivot point, with a spring and plate attached to one end. The spring and plate act as a counterbalance, allowing for the seesaw to move up and down in a controlled manner.

2. How does a seesaw with spring and plate work?

The seesaw with spring and plate works by utilizing the principles of potential and kinetic energy. When one end of the seesaw is pushed down, the spring compresses and stores potential energy. As the seesaw moves back up, the potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, causing the seesaw to move in an oscillating motion.

3. What are the benefits of using a seesaw with spring and plate?

A seesaw with spring and plate can be a fun and engaging way to teach children about energy and motion. It also helps to develop balance, coordination, and teamwork skills. Additionally, the spring and plate add an element of safety by providing a controlled and cushioned landing for children.

4. What materials are needed to make a seesaw with spring and plate?

The materials needed to make a seesaw with spring and plate include a long plank or board, a fulcrum or pivot point, a spring, and a plate. The plank can be made of wood or metal, and the spring and plate can be purchased from a hardware store or online.

5. How can a seesaw with spring and plate be used in a scientific experiment?

A seesaw with spring and plate can be used in a variety of scientific experiments related to energy and motion. For example, students can investigate how the height and weight of the riders affect the motion of the seesaw, or how the position of the spring and plate can change the oscillation pattern. It can also be used to demonstrate the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy and the conservation of energy principles.
