There is a type of fusion pinch concept where instead of imploding a metallic liner filled with gas fuel mixture they have a chamber with a central electrode and outer electrode , filling the chamber with gas and then a arc discharge is initiated and this discharge drives the gas like a piston.

What makes me wonder is this, the chamber is a cylinder by geometry such is also the central electrode. In theory for this to work the discharge current and resulting plasma needs to be a evenly spaced sheet that fills the whole area of the annulus between the central cylindrical electrode and the outer cylinder wall.
But knowing how gas discharges work and their unpredictable nature , can such a even current/plasma sheet form? I would think the current would be uneven and create "rods" of high discharge areas while leaving some other area void of any discharge.

In general is it possible to create a hollow current sheet in a gas chamber that would then turn into a hollow plasma sheet imploding itself much like the analog metallic liner?
