Short and simple question

  1. Sep 30, 2005 #1
What exactly is an echelon matrix? I searched the web and did find some useful results but I'm still a little confused.
Thanks in advance for any help.

An "echelon" matrix is one in which each row has zero entries extending further to the right than the previous row.
