Singularity in black holes

In summary, a singularity in a black hole is a point of infinite density and zero volume at the center of a black hole, where the laws of physics break down. It is not observable as it is hidden behind the event horizon, which is the point of no return. The singularity forms when a massive star collapses under its own gravity, and nothing, including light, can escape its strong gravitational pull. At the singularity, our understanding of space and time no longer applies, and all matter is compressed into a single point.

Gravity is zero at the center of the earth. how come the same set of equations predict the gravity to be infinity at the center of a black hole? where does the singularity really come into picture? how is a black holes center different from Earth's center?

Should have done more research before posting . Anyways somebody else might find this useful.

1. What is a singularity in a black hole?

A singularity in a black hole is a point of infinite density and zero volume at the center of a black hole. It is where the laws of physics, as we know them, break down.

2. Can we observe a singularity in a black hole?

No, we cannot observe a singularity directly as it is hidden behind the event horizon of a black hole. The event horizon is the point of no return where the gravitational pull is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape.

3. What causes a singularity to form in a black hole?

A singularity forms in a black hole when a massive star collapses under its own gravity. As the star's core collapses, it reaches a point where the gravitational pull is infinitely strong, forming a singularity.

4. Can anything escape from a singularity in a black hole?

No, once an object crosses the event horizon of a black hole, it is trapped and cannot escape. This includes light, which is why black holes are invisible.

5. What happens at the singularity of a black hole?

At the singularity, the laws of physics as we know them break down, and our current understanding of space and time no longer applies. It is a point of infinite density and infinite curvature, where all matter is compressed into a single point.
