Who watched the new SNL last night?

The quality of the show varies greatly with time. I guess the writers get burned out, creative ideas are run out, and the show hits bottom for a time. But last night was great! I was cracking up. It seems that SNL is in for another good season.

My favorite line last night came from New York Governer, David Paterson, who stated that the SNL news segment has made so much fun of his blindness, he forgot he's black! Even Paterson lost it as he said it!

The faux commercial about using pubic hair for hair transplants had me laughing out loud as well.

Off topic, but this reminded me of a staff meeting I went to. There was a bit of a feud going on between the MSgt of my office and a Captain in charge of a different office. The Captain was out for the morning due to a hospital appointment. According to the MSgt, the Captain was getting a vasectomy in the morning, yet was still planning on being back at work for this afternoon staff meeting.

You can imagine our shocked looks when the Captain actually did show up for the staff meeting! But with his head bandaged!

Turned out the Captain's appointment was actually for a hair transplant.

I still watch it when I can. I've learned not to judge it by its own history, because their is no comparison to the early episodes.

Loved when Betty White hosted back in May. And also enjoy most of the musical guests.

They completely lose me for years at a time. Then they pool new talent and hit on some good characters, and they have a few years to run that out before they start to lose me again. Did you see Tina Fey do Sarah Palin? That was absolutely hilarious! But you can only take that so far.

Tsu and I went back and watched the early seasons on Netflix. Honestly, a lot of the first shows were pretty bad; some were horrible! But the cast members were all nobodies back then, and Michaels a renegade producer with a wild idea and a low budget. It is evident that about half way through the first season they started getting more money. By the second season, the show was a whole new animal. Slowly the skits got better, and there were many very funny moments from the start, but it has always been true, imo, that even the best of SNL is 20-50% great humor, with 50-80% somewhere between okay, and bad. The 20-50% makes it worth watching.

They seem to get stuck in modes where they run out of good material, so they default to skits that are as offensive as possible. Many times this goes way too far. The recurring Gov Paterson character was one that made me uncomforable at times as they were poking fun at a blind man. It never got ugly, but it was definitely on the edge. To see Paterson himself take part was priceless. That changed the entire dynamic. Great stuff.

I take it all back. The first show of the season was great, but almost nothing since has been worth a hoot.

Last week, Tsu turned it off in disgust.

Ugh, tonight the host is Paul McCartney. That makes it tough to diss. His singing isn't what it used to be, but still, pretty cool. Tsu is sleeping and will be mad that she missed it.
