Statics question

  1. Nov 3, 2015 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
The Bracket BCD Is hinged at C and attached to a control cable at B. For the loading showm, determine the tension in the cable, the reaction at C.

so after attempting this problem for about an hour and still not getting the right
answer I decided to look up the solution. Only to be more confused can someone
explain why they start the solution off with Ty/Tx = 0.18/0.24 ??
How does setting up this ratio correlate to Ty and Tx?

Ty/Tx = 0.18/0.24 is the relationship between the two components of the tension in the line AB. By using this relationship, all of the forces acting on the crank mechanism are now acting parallel either to the x or y-axes.
