    The Evolution of Social Intelligence

    Two recent studies show that our human social roots go back to our primate beginnings, says this Science Daily article. The first study comes as the result of work by University of Pennsylvania researchers Robert Seyfarth, Thore Bergman, Dorothy Cheney and Jacinta Beehner, who have been studying a group of 80 baboon's in Botswana's Okavango Delta since 1992. The study shows that baboons, like humans, identify each other according to the social groups they belong to. In humans this could mean being a Republican, a Yankee's fan or a member of the A-Street Gang. Baboons classified each other by ranking within their family and relationships between families.
