The scattering geometry

  1. Jun 26, 2009 #1
I have just been confronted with understanding the scattering geometry in Raman experiment.
Several papers show the backscattering geometry in wurtzite structure like z(x,-x)-z.
I think that the outside the braket means the parallel to the c-axis.
    is that right?
but I do not understand the inside the braket.
what is the differences between x(y,y)-x,x(z,z)-x, and x(z,y)-x?
sometimes, I can see another expression like z(x,x)-z+z(x,y)-z.
could anyone help me to understand that expression!!!!
    thank you so much
