Presently, a white moose is trundling about in the deep, Norwegian woods..whenever he doesn't go into Mrs. Kirsten Hansen's garden to eat some fruit, that is.

However, the moose hunting season is upon us, and a fierce debate has been sparked here in Norway whether or not the moose should be felled.

Some hunters have said they won't shoot him if they meet him, but others say that there is nothing stated in the conditions of their permit about the colour of legitimate prey.
Here's a photo of the moose by Mrs. Hansen:

What is the opinion of PF'ers?
(I don't know how to make one of those fancy polls, I'm afraid..)

White mooses (meese??) are not too rare, but certainly not common. This picture is from the previous winter, it is a young ox:

They are albinos, but very few are full albinos, most have some pigmentation left.

According to the article, there are about half a million moose in Scandinavia, and the interviewed professor estimates the number of white moose to be around 5 at any given time.

Indeed it is. I agree with you, there are lots of other moose to shoot out in the woods.

I think that's reason enough to not hunt it.

    Moose update:

Of 30000 poll participants, 80 percent think the moose should live.

At the moment, there is a naming contest going on, the name "Albin" is leading, with "Albin Laden" on second place..

The second time I read this I realized that, though I've heard this word many times, I've never bothered to check its meaning:

So, I wonder if this moose is really trundling through the woods of Norway. If so, what we have here may be more remarkable than a mere white moose.
