I am doing a textual analysis about the final scene in the movie. At the end, once Thelma and Louise decide to drive off the cliff, the police officer goes after them. What does this represent? why did he do it?

He is sympathetic to them. He cares. We are sympathetic to his plight.

How could he not run after them? To stand and do nothing would be an act of apathy.
