In summary: America! The story of the Internet begins in 1969 with the implementation of ARPANET by academic researchers under the sponsorship of the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet#Creation_of_the_InternetAnd even that started at...America!

Having dished out lots of criticism of America over the last few years, I thought it would be nice to have a thread to acknowledge the many wonderful things America has contributed to the world.

1) Rock'n'Roll music.

Thanks America!

Ha, well, they must have made it nice especially for export to the UK. In any case, short of several musicians who most will never have heard of, and Spongbob, I'm having a hard time thinking of much else! I'll get there, I'm sure.

Is that the extent of what everyone has to say?

There are a lot of things that have come from America...I guess I will have to help...

Lets start with...
The internet? Does anyone like that?

Internets, is the correct term.

What about Porn videos? I would say that we have to be good at those.

You can hardly say that Aviation and Computers are from America. They contributed sure, but let's not give them too much credit either.

Ok how about a powered, heavier-than-air machines able achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. Those are from America...

As from computers...let me be more precise...electronic general-purpose computers started in America.

How is that?

Of course. And what a giant leap that was.

Personal Computers? Really just a matter of mass producing them rather than actually inventing something.
