Thinking Qns on Wave Motion

  1. Aug 28, 2006 #1
    Hi all,

Considering the nature of a water wave, how is the coconut going to move inland, say it is in the middle of the ocean(pacific)? Am i correct to say that the coconut bobs straight up and down.

    Any help will be appreciated

While it is true that waves only move objects up and down, in the ocean there are currents and especially at a coast, there are strong winds blowing in shore. You would know this having been to a beach. This is enough to slowly wash almost everything ashore.
