This is "Supporting our troops"?!?!? Well, I suppose now someone in the Pentagon at least has a balanced spreadsheet. Insult to Injury Apparently, this setup has been used before, i.e. that soldiers on "medical hold" would be given a food allowance and then charged for meals, but from what I've heard, in the past the allowance was set at a level where this was a good deal rather than a financial burden. Of course, this bit of bureaucratic callousness comes at the same time as Bush's proposed increase in the "death gratuity" for servicepeople. Pretty much par for the Bush administration—make a grand gesture, ignore the details.
